Jerf el Ahmar is a 10th millenium site (Mureybetian, PPNA horizon) on the left bank of the Syrian Middle Euphrates. Its occupation probably corresponds with the very beginnings of agriculture. Over a period of about 500 years, there was a succession of 10 villages at this site. They demonstrate a progressive transformation of architectural styles - from round houses to the first rectangular ones. This succession begins by the building of curved walls and finishes by constructions with true right angles. However, rounded models do persist and are combined with the rectangular forms.
