In 1998-1999, a frozen Scythian barrow has been excavated by a French-Italian-Kazakh team at Berel' (Eastern Kazakhstan). The remains, well preserved by the cold surroundings, are of exceptional quality. Two skeletons were discovered in a wooden coffin, in the funerary chamber. North of it, 13 horses, sacrificed with all trappings, display the typical art style called "Scytho-Siberian". The burial is dated of 294 B.C. by dendrochronology.
