Many publications have been made on Buddha images but very few study the iconographic characteristics of the Buddha image in Burma. We tried in this paper to present a condensed outlook of the Buddha image in the Burmese sculpture. For this purpose, we classified the Burmese images in three chronological periods : — Ancient Period (Srîksetra) 5th to 9th centuries A.D. — Pagan Period, 9th to 13th centuries A.D. — Post Pagan Period, 13th to 19th centuries A.D. For each period, we gave the most noticeable features of the Buddha images (position, gesture, garment and material).
