Identified since 1952 by L. Armand-Calliat, the remains of the Roman bridge were the subject of five seasons of subaquatic excavations, devoted to the study of the pile n° 3. The great stages of the building sequence of the pile erected in the beginning of the 3rd century, were individualized. It seems now obvious, that the studied remains in fact belong to the second, or even to a third bridge built on the upstream end of an old fordable passage. The excavations have given more than 150 coins, many tools particularly related to stonework. They have also showed that the pile was put inside a watertight box built, exactly as it was done for the construction of river boats but also sea ships.
