L'histoire «naturelle» d'un site de l'Age du Fer sur le Piémont méridional des Alpilles. Le domaine de Servanne (Bouches-du-Rhône)

The prospection and salvage digs carried out for the creation of the golf club of Servanne (meridional piedmont of the Alpilles) have uncovered an archaeological site dating from the iron age. Like the oppidum of Caisses which overlooks the site, it consists of two periods of occupation, about 350 years apart. The first from the 6th to the 5th century B.C. corresponds to an extensive occupation by independent units limited on the north by a ravine ; the second period from the 2nd to the 1st century B.C. is formed of more closely-knit constructions but with no apparent urban planning implanted in the blocked-up bed of the ravine and on its banks. Géomorphologie analysis shows the extent of recent modifications of the landscape and their implications on the successives localisations of the constructions : wearing down of the ravine in the context of the forest in the first half of the Holocene ; torrential water-flow to the limiting north the settlement in the early iron age ; gradual drying up of the erosive water-flow at the end of the late iron age ; stripping of the soil and colluvial fill-in after the Roman era. The humid climatic phase of the early iron age is demonstrated for the first time in Basse-Provence. The conclusion concerns the respective roles of natural climatic causes and the occupation of the terrain.Les prospections et les fouilles de sauvetage effectuées pour l'installation du golf de Servanne (piémont sud des Alpilles) ont mis au jour un site archéologique de l'Age du Fer. Comme l'oppidum des Caisses, qui le domine, il comporte deux périodes d'occupation séparées par un hiatus de 350 ans environ : la première période, du VIe au Ve s. avant J.-C. correspond à une occupation extensive par des unités indépendantes, limitées au nord par un ravin ; la seconde période, des IIe-Ier s. avant J.-C., formée de constructions plus denses mais sans schéma urbanistique cohérent, est implantée dans le lit colmaté du ravin et sur ses berges. L'analyse géomorphologique a montré l'importance des modifications récentes du paysage et ses implications sur la localisation des habitats successifs : incision du ravin dans le contexte forestier de la première moitié de l'Holocène ; phase torrentielle vigoureuse au premier Age du Fer, limitant l'extension du premier habitat ; apaisement de la dynamique érosive et tarissement de l'écoulement à la fin du deuxième Age du Fer, décapage des sols et remblaiement colluvial après l'époque romaine. La crise climatique humide du premier Age du Fer est ainsi mise en évidence pour la première fois en Basse-Provence. Le rôle respectif des causalités climatiques naturelles et de l'histoire de l'occupation du sol est abordé en conclusion.Jorda M., Provansal M, Royet Robert.
