This article takes the obvious paradoxes of the Turkish secularism as its starting point and underlines, at the first hand that, the duality of the late Ottoman reforms (19th-20th Centuries) which allowed, at once, the Westernisation and the Islamisation of the country. It suggests thereafter that this duality is resolved by the transformation of the current Turkey into a religiously homogeneous country (almost 100% of Muslims). This transformation was due to a coercive process, including the extermination of the Armenians in 1915. It remarks, however, that in stead of the old Ottoman duality, a new duality, between Islamisation and Turcification emerged with the foundation of the Turkish Republic.
