This article investigates and compares the postgraduate professional preparation of secondary teachers in England, Scotland and France. Teachers in the three countries have inherited specific professional and training cultures and the comparative approach allows for a study of the integration of theory and practice in each course in light of the overall course design and content, of the partnership adopted between the training institution and the schools as well as the mentoring and tutoring schemes in place in each of the three programmes selecteafor this study.
