Nine to ten-year-old children were sent to a school in the countryside for a two-week-training course devoted to written activities. Their mastery level was assessed concerning their knowledge of rules about graphemes-phonemes transcriptions, vocabulary, spelling and grammar comprehension. The experimental group was compared to a control group. Results show an influence of this training course on vocabulary and comprehension : the ability to analyse the character lists making up words is increased, producing a better understanding in one test as words recognition process is improved.
