This paper is based on answers to a questionnaire sent to teaching staffs from to French secondary schools which respresent the whole secondary level. It is a contribution to a body of knowledge about the teaching profession which has been accumulated for many years now. Its two main topics focus on relations between teachers and unions and on the professional image.
