Configuration sociale et genèse d’un milieu partisan. Le cas du parti socialiste en Ille-et-Vilaine

The sociology of political parties emphasises two different kinds of approaches: on a first side, a societal one, and on the other side, an organisational or entrepreneurial one. This leads generally to consider separately the historical and social configuration in which the party is included, and the mobilisation work that takes place in it. Presenting the socialist party’s case in French Ille-et-Villaine’s department, this paper leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to conciliate both approaches in order to account for some characteristics of a political party: its dominant groups’ properties, as well as its militants’ practices and ethos.La sociologie des partis politiques privilégie tantôt une approche sociétale, tantôt une approche organisationnelle ou entrepreneuriale. Cela conduit généralement à traiter de façon séparée la configuration sociale et historique dans laquelle s’insère le parti et le travail de mobilisation qui s’y effectue. L’exemple de la structuration du parti socialiste en Ille-et-Vilaine, dans une région où les chrétiens de gauche passent pour avoir joué un rôle de premier plan dans ce processus, indique que la conciliation de ces deux paradigmes est nécessaire si l’on veut comprendre tant les propriétés des groupes qui dominent le parti que les pratiques et l’ethos militants qui y prévalent.Sawicki Frédéric.
