HENRY L. MINTON SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND ITS COMMITMENT The question of social psychology and its commitment to real world issues is examined by citing a number of critical incidents in the historical development of the field in the United States. At the turn of the twentieth century, John Dewey called for a morally reflective social psychology. For the most part, his mandate has been ignored.
