Maxwell's equations can be cast in differential or, alternatively, various equivalent integral forms. For solving practical problems the differential or integral equations need to be discretized and solved. While the finite difference method is comparatively easy to implement, the finite element method is more flexible in discretizing irregular geometry. The conservative finite difference method (CFDM) offers an easy-to-implement scheme for a large class of practical problems in computational engineering.
