Abstract The protohistoric site of "Le Fief du Chail " (Port-d'Envaux, Charente-Maritime, France), is established on a calcareous hill, it contains a circular ditched enclosure and settlement structures, and was badly damaged by erosion. The enclosure and the grave contained in its ditch are Early Bronze Age, thus corresponding to a type of structure rarely found so early in the region. They therefore contribute to an improved understanding of funerary practices at the beginning of the Bronze Age, still poorly known for Western Central France. The erosion damage to the remains means the relationship between the enclosure and the settlement is not clear, but the latter probably also dates to the Early Bronze Age.Résumé Établi sur le flanc d'...
