Signification et évolution du Paléolithique moyen récent armoricain

ABSTRACT The occupation of the Armorican massif during the most recent period of the middle Palaeolithic is characterised by mainly coastal settlement during the last interglacial, with occupation on the plateau linked with workshops using sandstone (grès lustré), particulary during the Weich- selian. Different regional features have been found : Mousterian with bifacial tools, in southern Cotentin, Mousterian with notches and/or den- ticulates in this peninsula and Ferras- sie-type Mousterian in the Eastern part of the Armorican massif. In the Cotentin, raw material exploitation is based on flint alone, whereas in Brittany local rocks were often used.RÉSUMÉ L'occupation du Massif Armoricain durant la phase récente du Paléolithique Moyen se caractérise, par une implantation littorale prépondérante durant le dernier interglaciaire et une occupation sur les plateaux, associée aux ateliers de taille du grès lustré, notamment pendant le Weichsélien. Divers faciès « régionaux » ont été mis en évidence : Moustérien à outils bifaciaux, au Sud du Cotentin ; Moustérien à encoches et/ou à denticulés dans cette presqu'île et Moustérien de type Fer- rassie, dans le secteur oriental du Massif Armoricain. L'économie de la matière première apparaît fondée, dans le Cotentin, sur l'utilisation presque exclusive du silex alors qu'en Bretagne, les roches locales s'avèrent souvent employées.Cliquet Dominique, Monnier Jean-Laurent.
