Jl oliThe French mission at Kition (Larnaca, Cyprus) is excavating the ancient harbour near the sanctuary of Astarte and Melqart (site of Bamboula) with ship-sheds of classical period, for the war-ships of the royal fleet of Kition. The building consisted of parallel boxes covered by a tile-roof. The discovery of the northern limit of the building in 1998 indicated a length of 40 m. confirming that the hangars were built to shelter Athenian type triremes. Geomorphological and archaeological evidence testify that the site was a harbour in the Late Bronze Age (13th B.C.), then a military port in classical times until the end of independence from the Cypriot kingdoms (end of 4th c.
