The Water Situation in France In spite of abundant reserves, imbalances are likely to appear between water needs and resources in France. This is especially true in irrigated regions during periods of drought. Such temporary shortages contribute to an increased deterioration in the quality of the water. Water quality appears to be extremely poor. This situation can be largely ascribed to the insufficient elimination of the polluting substances discharged by industry and local communities.
