There are now Twice as Many Homes as a Century Ago - The first 1990 census results complete the analysis of all dwellings listed in the 1988 survey on housing. In general, they confirm the trends revealed in that survey: there is a continuing movement to the periphery of cities and, at the same time, households are becoming smaller. Recent years are characterized by a spectacular increase in dwellings other than those which are the main place of residence: that is, essentially secondary residences, including occasional homes which are frequently used as a "pied-à-terre" in a big city.
