Onnik Jamgocyan, " The French Revolution observed and lived through from Constantinople, 1789-1795." This study deals with the attitudes of a neutral country, the Ottoman Empire as it was confronted by the French Revolution and helps us understand the failings and difficulties of the revolutionary government in the realm of foreign policy; it also follows the daily life of the some 250 French who lived in Constantinople. In spite of the Sultan's aversion to the Revolution, a real current of interest and sympathy existed among the elite and even at court.
