La conception du langage chez Hamann et Rosenzweig

Hamann and Rosenzweig on Language In the first section similarities and differences between Hamann's and Rosenzweig's understanding of language are shown, Hamann as a critic of the Enlightenment and Rosenzweig as a critic of idealism. Both reject reason as a primary source of knowledge in favor of language and senses. The second section « Myth and the Bible » shows how Hamann and Rosenzweig developed a theory of biblical language, accepting myth as being prior to biblical thinking. A third section includes Benjamin's and Scholem's similar concepts of language. A final section discusses the political implications of Hamann's , Scholem's and Rosenzweig's criticisms of the Enlightenment : the « divided Jew » proposed by the Enlightenment proved to be a dead end road, leaving the European Jews defenseless.Cet article compare la conception du langage chez Hamann critique des Lumières et chez Rosenzweig critique de l'idéalisme. Les deux penseurs nient que la raison soit la source première de la connaissance et attribuent ce rôle au langage dans sa dimension historique ainsi qu'aux sens. Hamann et Rosenzweig ont développé une théorie du langage biblique où le mythe est présenté comme préexistant à la pensée. Vient ensuite une présentation d'une conception similaire du langage chez Benjamin et Scholem. Enfin, une dernière partie montre que la critique des Lumières par Hamann, Scholem et Rosenzweig comporte des implications politiques : en effet la figure du « Juif clivé » chère aux Lumières s'avéra être une impasse qui laissa les Juifs d'Europe sans défense.Horwitz Rivka.
