In the palaeolithic site of Biache-Saint-Vaast (Pas-de-Calais), the low terrace of the Scarpe valley and the overlying loess are affected by numerous faults. Thanks to the archaeological excavations, the tectonic study shows that faults have a strike-slip character and two main directions (N 1 10°-130°, N 20°-40°) corresponding to the block tectonics of Northern France and Belgium structure. That tectonic movements dated from the late Middle Pleistocene and Upper Pleistocene have a strong influence on the geomorphological evolution.Dans le gisement paléolithique de Biache-Saint-Vaast (Pas-de-Calais) la basse terrasse de la Scarpe et les loess qui la recouvrent sont affectés par de nombreuses failles.
