On the left bank of the middle-Durance, upper benches are covered by a similar material to the "Poudingues de Valensole", but also, in same cases by a material strikly different. Consequently, an evolution of the clay mineral associations occurs in front of the "Poudingues de Valensole". From an initial association with prevailing smectite, one may find new minerals (vermiculite, hydrous kaolinite) bound to the diversified climatic conditions of the Pleistocene. Other minerals (lllite, chlorite and various mixed- layer), of detritic origin, have been deposited by the Durance and its tributaries (Asse, Verdon) The "Terrasse de Villard-Saint- Laurent" stands up to the present as the highest typical durancian level in the mid durancian basin.E...
