An Employment Strategy : A Narrow Path Emmanuel Raoul, Jean-Pîerre Caffet, Pierre Joly, Bertrand Piens, and Suzanne Thave Unemployment is at the center of the disequitibria which affect the French economy. Although the reduction in work time can, in certain very specific conditions, help to meet the challenge, it is, paradoxically, difficult to implement due to the very low economic growth. The two traditional methods of stimulating growth-Keyne- sian reflation and devaluation — tend to be more and more costly in terms of the foreign trade deficit. Thus, there can be no question of resorting to such measures, as the current deficit is quite large. The paths leading to a solution to the disequilibria of France's economy are, then, narrow....
