The Bath of the Women of Melun : Medieval Jews and Ritual Baths' Cold Water - The article deals with the discussions of certain medieval Ashkenazi and Provençal rabbis about the legality of warming the water of the ritual baths used by Jewish women. Tradition held that Rabbenu Hananel and Rabbenu Tarn, two major authorities, permitted the custom. Nevertheless, many Jewish legal experts were not sure about the "real" opinion of Rabbenu Tarn, having heard about a case in which he forbade it.
