Summary. — Western rural populations have been marked by two opposing demographic processes during the last two centuries: an increase in numbers as a result of the demographic transition followed by a massive rural exodus. The reduction of population is not equivalent for all studied populations because some benefit from specific economic conditions that limit emigration and sometimes even produce a positive migratory flow. These population movements usely lead to a diminution in the rate of endogamy and an extension of the marriage area towards more distant regions; it results have important consequences on the genetic structure of the local populations.Résumé. — Les populations rurales occidentales ont été marquées par deux processus dém...
