SERIES OF CRANIA AND ARMY OF SKELETONS : ANTHROPOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS IN FRANCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY Summary. — This article examines the relations between anthropological collections and anthropological knowledge in France during the second half of the nineteenth century. Firstly, our study analyzes the scientific, technical, and patriotic reasons which have governed the setting up of anthropological collections — in particular the collections of skulls in the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, the Société d'Anthropologie de Paris, and the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie.
