THE NEW RECONSTRUCTION OF THE NEANDERTAL SKULL OF LA CHAPELLE-AUX-SAINTS (CORREZE, FRANCE). METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH AND RESULTS. Summary. — The new reconstruction of the famous neandertal skull was carried out from June 1984 to April 1985 in the Musée de l'Homme, Paris. At first, this reconstruction was necessary for the preservation of the specimen, but it appeared that it offered new data about neandertal anatomy and cranial structure, especially of the basicranium, the posterior part of the face, the facial cavities and a large part of the cranial vault. Comparatively to the former reconstruction, our work provides a smaller endocranial capacity (less than 1600 cc), a slighty longer and narrower skull (dolichocranic) without any pattern ...
