SUMMARY. — This paper focuses on one aspect of Lavoisier's scientific work : his studies of mineral waters. Three aspects are emphasized in this paper. The memoirs devoted to various analyses of mineral waters exhibit one link between Lavoisier's revolutionary achievement and the XVIIIth century chemical tradition. They allow a better understanding of the intellectual pathway leading Lavoisier from geological studies in the field to the laboratory practice of chemistry. And above all they shed a new light on Lavoisier's instrumental practice of quantitative measurement with the importance of the hydrometer which he viewed as « the chemist balance for fluids ».RÉSUMÉ. — Cet article est centré sur quelques mémoires de Lavoisier consacrés à l'...
