French Polynesia, isolated in the South-Eastern part of the Pacific Ocean, is internationally renowned. Nevertheless, its touristic frequenting has shown, since 1985, a tendancy to stagnate around 130 000 tourists a year, whereas its main competitors in the Pacific show spectacular progress. Today, it's not enough to appeal to seaside tropical stereotypes - white sand beaches, coconut trees, ... - in so much as it doesn't tally with the tahitian reality.
