Abstract : Wind erosion in Zarmaganda. For some decades now, the dune-like landscape of Zarmaganda, once a major production area for cereals and Cyperus esculentus (edible cyperus), has been subject to intensive and generalised degradation. A dominant role in this degradation has been played by the wind, the Harmattan, during the dry season. The most spectacular aspect of this development, as the present study reveals, is the generalised phenomenon of deflation, the effects of which can be seen in the bare terrain of the dunes and glacis.
