The decolonization of Algeria in July 1962 provokes the departure of a million Frenchmen settled overseas generally since several generations. The farmers, who formed in Algeria the dominating social and economic group, seek to re-settle in Southern France. But a very few succeed. The ones cannot because of the price of land, their lack of money and the insufficience of the financial means granted by the government. The others are repelled by the difficulties of adaptation to different cultures.
