Regional newspapers and urban influence. The example of the netherlands. Newspapers seem to provide a convenient and comparatively synthetic method of measuring the sphere of influence of a town. Its use, however, on the level of the urban network of a state is complicated by the scarcity and the confidential nature of the sources, and by difficulties of interpretation arising from recent developments in the daily press (mergers, agreements, syndication of advertisements). It was possible to study the example of the Netherlands thanks to established statistics. One can conclude from this example that a newspaper does not indicate any scale of importance. For example, some towns with less than 10,000 inhabitants publish their own daily newspaper. On the other hand, at a given level, in spite of the artificial aspect of some of the areas of circulation, it seems that newspapers confirm the extent of spheres of influence which have been measered by other methods.Le journal apparaît comme un moyen commode et relativement synthétique d'apprécier le rayonnement d'une ville. Mais son utilisation à l'échelle de l'armature urbaine d'un État se heurte à la rareté ou au caractère confidentiel des sources, et à des difficultés d'interprétation dues à l'évolution récente de la presse quotidienne (concentration, ententes, couplages publicitaires). L'exemple néerlandais a pu être étudié à l'aide de données sûres. Il en ressort que le journal n'indique pas un niveau hiérarchique précis : ainsi, certaines villes de moins de 10 000 habitants publient leur quotidien. En revanche, à un niveau reconnu, et malgré l'aspect artificiel de certaines limites de diffusion, le journal semble confirmer les aires d'influence obtenues à l'aide d'autres critères.Boyer Jean-Claude.
