Eugène Goupil : collector and patron The Mexican manuscript collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, one of the richest in the world, is in very large part constituted from the former Aubin collection. Eugène Goupil, a manufacturer of « metallic beads in all colors » born in Mexico and of Mexican descent through his mother, acquired the Aubin collection in 1889 to bequeath it to the Bibliothèque nationale. As early as 1891, he brought out the catalog, written by Eugène Boban who he also hired to publish the major manuscripts of his collection. Goupil's wife, Augustine Élie, scrupulously respected his intentions and offered to the Bibliothèque nationale in 1898, along with the extraordinary collection of manuscripts, the rarest printed works of the Aubin collection.Le fonds mexicain de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, l'un des plus riches au monde, est majoritairement constitué de l'ancienne collection Aubin. Eugène Goupil, né au Mexique et d'ascendance mexicaine par sa mère, fabricant de « perles métalliques en toutes couleurs », l'acquit en 1889 pour la léguer à la Bibliothèque nationale. Dès 1891 il en fait paraître le catalogue, rédigé par Eugène Boban, qu'il charge aussi de publier les manuscrits majeurs de sa collection. Sa veuve, Augustine Élie, respectera scrupuleusement ses intentions et offrira à la bibliothèque en 1898, avec l'extraordinaire collection de manuscrits, les plus rares éditions imprimées de la collection Aubin.Eugène Goupil, nacido en México y de ascendencia mexicana por su madré, dueño de una fábrica de « cuentas metálicas de todos colores » compró dicha colección en 1889 para legarla a la Bibliothèque nationale. Tan sólo dos años más tarde editó un catálogo redactado por Eugène Boban, al cual encargó también la publicación de los principales manuscritos de su colección. Su viuda, Augustine Élie, respetó escrupulosamente sus voluntades y donó en 1898 a la biblioteca la extraordinaria colección de manuscritos, junto con los más raros de los libros impresos de la colección Aubin.Cohen Monique.
