The first congress Shipibo-Conibo in the political and religious context of the 60-70 's. At the end of the sixties, several Peruvian Amazonian Indian groups, conscious of the domination of the colonial situation, began to organize themselves in order to assert their territorial, political and cultural rights. Between 1971 and 1972, the Shipibo-Conibo from the Ucayali organize four different congress during which they discussed their numerous problems, expressed their claims to the governmental authorities, and decided to join together under a renewed political leadership.
