Abstract. — The evolution from the concepts of the natural limit in the montains to the notion of threshold and of marginal space is accompanied by a radical transformation in regional analysis. More than any other environment, the moutain has favoured the country as an elemental geographical unit.Résumé. — L'évolution des concepts, de la limite naturelle en montagne à la notion de seuil et d'espace marginal, s'accompagne d'une transformation radicale de l'analyse régionale.
