La géographie, discipline scolaire et/ou science sociale ? (1860-1920)

Catherine Rhein : Die Geographie, Schulfach und/oder Sozialwissenschaft ? (1860-1920). Im Unterschied zur Soziologie (nach Durkheim), die sich in der Universität, erst ab 1890 entwickelt, ist die Geographie seit 1812 schon Bestandteil des Gymnasialunterrichts als Nebenfach zur Geschichte. 1872 werden diese Programme neugeordnet unter der Autoritat von Emile Levasseur, Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, Historiker und Wortfüh- rer einer einflussreichen Gruppe von Wissenschaftlern der Wirtschaftspolitik. Somit besteht die Geographie als Schulfach vor ihrem Einzug und ihrer Entwicklung in der Universitat. Diese Entwicklung ist das Werk von Vidal de la Blache und seiner Schuler ab 1890. Diese paradoxale Situation zeigt deutlich, einerseits die zwielichtige Stellung dieses Faches in den philologischen Fakultaten, und andererseits die Unmöglichkeit einer Debatte zwischen Vidalischen Geographen und Durkheimschen Soziologen, um so mehr, als der darunterliegende institutionnelle Gewinn, das heisst der Ersatz der Anthropogeographie durch die soziale Morphologie, schliesslich unwichtig oder gar nicht vorhanden ist.Catherine Rhein : Geography, school subject matter and /or social science ? (Durkheimian) Sociology did not take its place in the University until 1890 ; in comparison, geography was introduced into the secondary school curriculum as early as 1812 as a minor discipline, annexed to history. In 1972 the geography and history curricula were recast under the authority of Emile Levasseur, economist, historian and spokesman for an influential group of political economists. Geography thus existed in the schools before being established at the university level - this latter development was the work of Vidal de la Blache and his students from 1890 on. This paradoxical situation largely accounts for the ambiguous position that this discipline occupies in the Faculties of Arts, and the impossibility of communication between Vidalian geographers and Durkheimian sociologists, especially as the underlying institutional issue at stake- the replacement of human geography by social morphology, appears to be, in the last analysis, inexistant or of little or no consequence.Catherine Rhein : La géographie, discipline scolaire et /ou science sociale ? A la différence de la sociologie (durkheimienne) qui ne se développera dans l'Université qu'à partir de 1890, la géographie est, dès 1812, introduite dans l'enseignement secondaire comme discipline mineure, annexe de l'histoire. En 1872, ces programmes sont refondus, sous l'autorité d'Emile Levasseur, économiste, historien et porte-parole d'un groupe influent d'économistes politiques. Ainsi, la géographie comme discipline scolaire préexiste à l'établissement et au développement de la géographie comme discipline universitaire. Le développement de la géographie universitaire est l'œuvre de Vidal de la Blache et de ses élèves à partir de 1890. Cette situation paradoxale rend largement compte, d'une part, de la position ambiguë de cette discipline dans les Facultés des Lettres, d'autre part, de l'impossibilité d'un débat entre géographes vidaliens et sociologues durkheimiens, d'autant que l'enjeu institutionnel sous-jacent, c'est-à-dire la substitution de la morphologie sociale à la géographie humaine, apparaît en définitive sinon inexistant, du moins peu important.Catherine Rhein : ¿ La geografia, disciplina escolar y/o ciencia social ? En 1872 se refunden aquellos programas bajo la autoridad de Emile Levasseur, economista, historiador y portavoz de un grupo influyente de economistas políticos. Asi, la geografia corao disciplina escolar preexiste al establecimiento y al desarrollo de la geografia como disciplina universitaria. El desarrollo de la geografia universitaria es la obra de Vidal de la Blache y de sus discipulos después de 1890. Da cuenta ampliamente esa situación paradójica, рог una parte de la posición ambigua de esa disciplina en las Facultades de Letras, por otra parte de la imposibilidad de un debate entre geógrafos vidalianos y sociólogos durkheimianos, tanto más cuanto que la empresa institucional subyacente, es decir la substitución de la morfologia social a la geografia humana parece, en definitiva, sino inexistente, por lo menos poco importante.Rhein Catherine.
