Abstract. - In 1851 a hoard of gold coins was discovered in Algeria, at Medeah. After some were purloined - the exact number is unknown - the 32 remaining coins were divided between the museum at Algiers and the « Cabinet des Médailles » in Paris. Only 10 out of the 18 coins initially intended for the latter reached Paris. There they were registered, although without any mention of their origin which is being determined here thanks to unpublished records. They are coins from Constantinople, minted under Theodosius II, Leo I and Zeno, spreading out from 430 to 491. Owing to the determination of its origin this hoard of gold coins proves to be the first ever to have been unearthed in Algeria.Résumé. - En 1851, un trésor de monnaies d'or était...
