This investigation on the blacksmiths of the Bassar agglomeration in Northern Togo has shown up the existence of two distinct groups of blacksmiths which prouved to be complementary : relatively specialized, on the one hand, in the production of specific objects, they are also complementary in the treatment of iron (one group transforming the metal before hand for the other). In order to show this complementary, a detailed comparison of tools, of the kinds of work organization and of techniques was established (leading us to complete, at the same time, the existing descriptions of the technology of one of the groups, the one of the Bassar blacksmiths).
