Organisation territoriale, organisation sociale : la logique du système toubou

This article sheds light on the logical ties which, in Tubu society, bind a weak territorial organisation with a series of other traits characteristic of the social organisation of these nomadic saharo-sahelian herders : the geographical dispersion of patrilineal clans, marriage rules prohibiting all close kin, strong economic family ties, the importance of honor and shame, and the weak political role of chiefs.Cet article met en évidence les rapports logiques qui, dans la société toubou, lient la faiblesse de la structuration territoriale avec tout un ensemble d'autres traits caractéristiques de l'organisation sociale de ces pasteurs saharo-sahéliens : la dispersion géographique des clans, la règle de mariage qui proscrit le cercle des proches parents, les fortes solidarités familiales, l'importance de l'honneur et la faiblesse politique des chefs.Baroin Catherine.
