Ritual Integration of Social Groups among the Modang Wehèa (East Kalimantan, Indonesia) by Antonio Guerreiro The Modang Wehèa, swidden agriculturists of interior Borneo, display a complex of rituals linked to the cultivation of padi. This article presents an analysis of the ritual system through the description of village organization. Social and ritual processes, especially hierarchy, are examined in relation to dual organization, and placed in their spatial context. Then two major rituals included in the cycle of harvest festival Na' pli' are analysed together with the associated representations and religious beliefs. A comparison with the nine-day head hunting ceremony, Nemlèn, shows how Wehèa society achieves the highest level of unity ...
