Le Rhône et la Saône, voie navigable à grand gabarit

The development of the Rhône for international model navigation has been completed since three years. New canals have improved the relations between the Rhône and the leading mediterranean ports of Fos-sur-Mer and Port-de-Bouc. But the works on the Saône are slower. Thus, high tonnage convoies cannot procede much more north than Lyon, whereas the small river barges of Freycinet canals are going down the Rhône and reach the ports of Fos and Sète.L'aménagement complet du Rhône pour la navigation à grand gabarit est achevé depuis trois ans. De nouveaux canaux ont amélioré les relations entre le Rhône et les ports méditerranéens de Sète, de Fos-sur-Mer et de Port-de-Bouc. Mais les travaux sur la Saône sont plus lents. Aussi les convois de fort tonnage ne peuvent-ils pénétrer très loin au Nord de Lyon ; au contraire, la petite batellerie des canaux Freycinet descend le Rhône et atteint les ports méditerranéens.Laferrère Michel.
