An analysis of the march 2001 french elections When explaining the municipal elections, politico-strategic determinants and economical variables have not been often simultaneously used. The permanent state of governmental centralization in strengthening the specificity of local races require us to give the correct evaluation of the degree of decentralization. Former papers when studying local interactions between politics and economics were confined to the political business cycle of municipal economics, omitting the citizen-voter reaction. We are proposing here an empirical test for the French case using a municipal vote function and a pooled time series for the 236 communes over 30 000 people from the 1989-1995 elections years.
