Presidentialism affects the life of both the Socialist Party and its factions. Without a candidate to the Elysee, no faction has a chance of winning or even surviving. Party timetables and ideological debutes are geared to the presidential candidacy. As for the party's institutional program, it has gradually moved towards an acceptance of the Constitution in ils Gaullist practice.
