THE MARCH 1978 PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN FRANCE, by NICOLAS DENIS Analysis of the results of the March 1978 parliamentary elections suggests that the major handicap for the Union of the Left was the sentiments still inspired in French voters by one of its essential components the PC. Moreover, the way in which the PS persisted in reiterating its faith in the alliance with the PC, and also the concessions made, despite the verbal attacks made by the latter, would seem to have been damaging. The division of the outgoing majority, on the other hand, would appear to have done it good.
