Whether it remains as a trace - more or less deep or predictable - or whether it constitutes the burning core of a work entirely devoted to its representation, Egypt in the XIXth century marked with its indelible imprint our systems of composition and methods of exposition, which are, in reality, those of the signs of the world. The evolution specific to travel narrations - which progressively yield ground to the touristic novel - but that, also, of egyptologic texts - which, in their turn, are gripped by the temptation of novelisation - shows, among other metamorphoses in typology and stylistics, the slow shift of fancy of Egyptian-influenced literature towards a more readily scriptural, linguistic or hieroglyphic fancy. Five major imagologic categories indeed bear witness to this irreversible takeover by the Sign in the whole of artistic fieds, in accordance with an equation combining, in a consubstantial way, Egypt with language, - images of Egypt and images of language as if it were a matter of approaching and apprehending, in its infinite finiteness, the mystery of every form of speech and of every system of writing.Qu'elle subsiste à l'état de trace (plus ou moins prévisible, plus ou moins profonde) ou qu'elle constitue le foyer brûlant d'une œuvre tout entière vouée et dévouée à sa représentation, l'Egypte a, au XIXe siècle, marqué d'une empreinte indélébile nos régimes de composition et modes d'exposition, qui sont en vérité ceux des signes du monde. L'évolution propre aux récits de voyage (cédant progressivement à la romancisation touristique), mais aussi aux textes égypto- logiques (saisis, à leur tour, par la tentation du romanesque), signale, parmi d'autres métamorphoses typologiques et stylistiques, le lent infléchissement de l'imaginaire littéraire égyptisant vers un imaginaire plus volontiers scriptural, langagier - hiéroglyphique. Cinq catégories imagologiques majeures témoignent en effet de cette irréversible prise de pouvoir du Signe dans l'ensemble des domaines artistiques, selon une équation associant, de façon consubstantiel- le, Egypte et langage, images d'Egypte et images de langage, comme s'il s'agissait, enfin, d'approcher et d'appréhender, dans son infinie finitude, le mystère de toute forme de parole et de tout système d'écriture.Vivès Luc.
