Politics of the Greek Nation State with regard to the diaspora. Michel Bruneau. The greek diaspora existed even before the Nation-State which owes her much. Although it very early appeared as necessary to establish a policy of this State towards the diaspora, it took a long time enforcing it. This is due not only to the difficulties which the Greek State came up against until after the Second World War, but mostly to its logic of territorial expansion in the Balkan peninsula and in the islands, as well as to the need to settle on its territory and integrate more than one million refugees from Asia Minor and Eastern Thrace.
