The contribution includes three parts. The firstpart comes back to the introduction of industrial organization in France in the seventies and exhibits why the questions raised by the so-called « French School » were not solved, for most of them. These questions, however, kept their fundamental relevance. The second part of the paper copes with « theoretical industrial microeconomics » and shows how this approach permitted substantial progress as reponds the « structure/ behaviour/performance paradigm ». The last part of the paper focuses on the new microeconomic developments which appeared during the last ten years. They raise new questions and try to answer to some of the questions of the French School. They also lead to enlong the field o...
