Bocquier (Philippe). - The Relationship between Infant Mortality Rates and the Spacing of Births in the Suburb of Dakar (Senegal) The relationship between rates of mortality in infancy and childhood and birth spacing has, until recently, only rarely been studied in francophone West Africa, particularly in the urban areas. This paper is based on results from a retrospective survey carried out in Pikine, suburb of Dakar (the capital of Senegal), in 1986 among 2807 women aged between 15 and 49 years.
