Leridon Henri. — A Constant Rate of Increase as a Demographic Objective and Method of Projection. The principal object of population policy is generally the maintenance of a given rate of (natural) population growth rather than that of a given level of fertility. It is not, therefore, possible for a period fertility rate to be used as a standard of reference, against which a medium or long-term policy may be judged. In this paper, the female population of France has been projected from 1978 onwards, on the assumption that mortality and rate of growth remain constant.
