Roussel Louis. — Marriages and Divorces. Contribution to a Systematic Analysis of the Matrimonial Models. The substantial iise in the divorce rate over the last 15 years raises certain problems. It has been suggested that it may be due to the large rise in the proportion of married women in gainful employment. Although the author does not deny the relevance of this factor, he feels that the changes in the divorce rate reflect a transformation in the attitude to marriage and particularly to its indissolubility. He attempts to show that there exists a logical correspondence between four historical models of marriage and four types of attitude on the part of individual and of the state to the legal dissolution of marriage.
