Pressât Roland. — Demographic Terminology. Because demography borrows words and expressions from everyday language and because many writers on population are not demographic specialists, demography has faced some difficulties in relation to its terminology. The terminology itself is not entirely logical, because inevitably, the influence of past usage is felt. However, there should be a minimum degree of coherence, and the possibility of introducing the maximum amount of nuances without misleading the reader by the use of falsely suggestive terms. In the paper, these requirements are illustrated by means of different examples which refer to the most widespread abuses of the language.Pressât Roland. — Le vocabulaire de la démographie. Parce ...
